Pet sitters and dog walkers in Atlanta

Atlanta's busiest dog corridor — the BeltLine — is leashed-only and strict about it, which surprises people who assume the city that invented the $275-a-year dog-park bar must be loose about leads. The free alternative is better than most cities manage: eight official off-leash parks, including three fenced acres inside Piedmont Park that cost nothing and need no membership.

Where

Covering Atlanta and Fulton County

Providers list the parts of Atlanta they actually travel to, which is usually a handful of neighbourhoods rather than the whole city. Between them the app covers Virginia-Highland, Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Midtown, Candler Park, Grant Park, Kirkwood, East Atlanta Village, Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown, Poncey-Highland and Morningside–Lenox Park, along with the rest of Fulton County. Search your own address in the app and it will show who is genuinely close rather than who is merely listed.

Being straight with you

Our Atlanta coverage right now

We are onboarding our first Atlanta providers, so coverage is filling in neighbourhood by neighbourhood rather than being complete everywhere. We would rather say that than show you a long list of names who cannot actually take your booking. Every provider verifies their ID with our team before they appear, and the app only shows people who are free for your dates.

If nobody is near you yet, it is worth checking back — Atlanta is our home market and the first one we are building out.

Local rules

Dog laws in Atlanta

The parts that catch people out, and where to check for yourself.

Atlanta's leash rule is specific: Code § 18-124 requires a dog off its own property to be on a leash no longer than six feet in the hand of someone competent to control it — and the city's Leash Up ATL campaign has police writing citations, including on the BeltLine, which is leashed its entire length despite being the busiest dog route in the city. Off-leash is only legal inside the eight designated dog parks. Fulton County adds two layers: unattended tethering is unlawful (§ 34-205 — a dog may be tethered only while you're present, on a fitted collar, never wrapped around the neck), and every dog, cat and ferret over four months needs a county pet licence tied to its rabies term — roughly $10 to $60 through PetData depending on alteration and duration. Georgia state law (O.C.G.A. § 31-19-5) requires rabies vaccination by about three months. Note for the Kirkwood/East Lake edge: that part of Atlanta is DeKalb County, with its own licensing and its own shelter.

Lost a pet in Atlanta?

Save these numbers now, not on the day.

1251 Fulton Industrial Boulevard NW — run by LifeLine Animal Project, and where a found dog in the Fulton County part of Atlanta (most of the city) goes. The same number dispatches animal control.

3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road — for dogs found on Atlanta's DeKalb side (Kirkwood, East Lake). Lost-and-found email: lostandfound@dekalbanimalservices.com.

Work through the first hour properly — our step-by-step plan covers what to do before you start making calls. A QR ID tag skips most of this: whoever finds your pet scans the code with their phone and reaches you directly, without a shelter or a scanner in between.

Being fair about it

Your other options in Atlanta

  • ✓Rover and Wag — larger networks than ours, so if you need someone tonight they will usually have somebody. Their commission on new sitters is around 20%.
  • ✓A boarding kennel — predictable and staffed overnight, but your dog is somewhere unfamiliar rather than at home.
  • ✓A neighbour — free and trusted, until the week they are away too.

What you get booking through Kingston’s

  • ✓Every provider's photo ID is checked by a person on our team before they can appear in search or take a booking — that is what the green Verified badge means
  • ✓Message a provider before you commit, and keep talking through the booking with photos. The conversation stays attached to the booking, so what was agreed stays on the record
  • ✓Star ratings and reviews can only be left by someone who actually completed a booking with that provider — nobody else can post one
  • ✓If something goes wrong, report it in the app and your payment is held while we review it
  • ✓Providers keep 87% of what they charge against Rover's roughly 80%, so the same work pays a local sitter more — better-paid sitters stay, and a sitter who already knows your dog beats a cheaper stranger

We are the newest of these options in Atlanta and have fewer providers than the national platforms — we would rather you knew that going in. How to judge any sitter for yourself applies whichever one you choose.

Questions

Atlanta pet care FAQ

Can my dog be off-leash on the Atlanta BeltLine?+

No — the BeltLine is leashed its entire length, maximum six feet under city code § 18-124, retractables discouraged, with fines around $100 and police actually citing. The free legal alternative is the city's eight official dog parks; Freedom Barkway sits right beside the Freedom Park Trail if you want to combine the two.

Does my dog need a licence in Atlanta?+

Yes, in Fulton County — every dog, cat and ferret over four months needs a county pet licence, bought through PetData and tied to the rabies vaccination term: roughly $10 for a one-year altered licence up to $60 for a three-year unaltered one. If you live on the city's DeKalb side (Kirkwood, East Lake), DeKalb's rules apply instead. Georgia state law separately requires rabies vaccination by about three months.

Is Piedmont Park's dog park really free?+

Yes — three fenced acres, split at the 30-pound line, free and open to all; you don't need Piedmont Park Conservancy membership, whatever the rumour says. The paid option people confuse it with is Fetch Park, the dog-park bar in Old Fourth Ward, which runs $15 a day or $275 a year. Piedmont's own rules: no puppies under 16 weeks, no dogs in heat, three dogs per person.

What does a dog walker cost in Atlanta?+

Expect $15–$30 for a 30-minute walk — Rover's Atlanta average was $22 in October 2026. Boarding in a sitter's home averaged $43 a night, and overnight house sitting runs high here, around $56 a night on average.

My dog got out in Atlanta — who do I call first?+

It depends which county your dog went missing in — and most owners don't know their side of the line. Fulton (most of Atlanta): Fulton County Animal Services on 404-613-0358, shelter at 1251 Fulton Industrial Boulevard NW. Kirkwood/East Lake (DeKalb side): 404-294-2996, plus an email to lostandfound@dekalbanimalservices.com. Post in the Atlanta lost-pet groups the same hour — in a city this size, neighbours find more dogs than shelters do.

What are Atlanta's tethering rules?+

Fulton County bars unattended tethering entirely — a dog may only be tethered while its owner or custodian is actually present, on a properly fitted collar or harness, never with the line wrapped around the neck or an excessively heavy chain. Leaving a dog tied in the yard while you're out is a violation, full stop.

Do you have providers in my part of Atlanta?+

Atlanta is our newest and biggest southern market, filling in from the intown neighbourhoods — Virginia-Highland, Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Grant Park, Kirkwood. Open the app and search your address to see who's genuinely available near you, and check back as coverage grows.

How is Kingston's different from Rover in Atlanta?+

Providers keep 87% of what they charge; on Rover, new sitters give up roughly 20% and you pay an 11% service fee on top. At Atlanta prices — a $22 walk, $56-a-night house sits — those percentages are real money on both sides. Booking is free for pet owners here.
