Pet sitters and dog walkers in Baltimore

Baltimore's dog parks run the whole spectrum in one city: Patterson Park's is free and city-run, Locust Point's reserves two hours a day for small and senior dogs only, and Canton's is members-only behind a key fob you buy from the community association. Behind all of it sits BARCS — Maryland's largest open-admission shelter, taking in around eleven to twelve thousand cats and dogs a year — which is where a found Baltimore dog goes.

Where

Covering Baltimore and Baltimore City

Providers list the parts of Baltimore they actually travel to, which is usually a handful of neighbourhoods rather than the whole city. Between them the app covers Canton, Fells Point, Federal Hill, Locust Point, Riverside, Patterson Park, Hampden, Mount Vernon, Charles Village, Remington, Bolton Hill and Brewers Hill, along with the rest of Baltimore City. Search your own address in the app and it will show who is genuinely close rather than who is merely listed.

Being straight with you

Our Baltimore coverage right now

We are onboarding our first Baltimore providers, so coverage is filling in neighbourhood by neighbourhood rather than being complete everywhere. We would rather say that than show you a long list of names who cannot actually take your booking. Every provider verifies their ID with our team before they appear, and the app only shows people who are free for your dates.

If nobody is near you yet, it is worth checking back — Baltimore is our home market and the first one we are building out.

Local rules

Dog laws in Baltimore

The parts that catch people out, and where to check for yourself.

Baltimore City requires a licence for dogs and cats over four months — $10 a year altered, $30 unaltered through PetData (half price for owners 65+, and a $100 lifetime option for altered, microchipped pets), with a current rabies vaccination required to buy one (Health Code § 10-202). Maryland state law requires rabies vaccination by four months, with fines up to $500. The city's at-large rules (Health Code §§ 10-504 and 10-307) require a dog off its owner's property to be leashed or otherwise secured, with off-leash legal only inside the fenced dog parks. Tethering is regulated rather than banned: no tethering in unsafe or extreme-weather conditions, and never by a chain, choke, prong or training collar — a fitted nylon or leather collar or harness only.

Out and about

Dog parks in Baltimore

All free, all fenced, and all leashed going in and out.

🐾

Patterson Park Dog Park — 2601 E Baltimore Street

The flagship: city-run and free, fenced and double-gated with separate large- and small-dog areas on turf, a water fountain and free bags — the default for Canton, Butchers Hill and Patterson Park itself.

🐾

Locust Point Dog Park (Latrobe Park) — 1627 E Fort Avenue

Volunteer-maintained artificial-turf park with a rule the small-dog crowd loves: 9–10am and 3–4pm daily are reserved for small and senior dogs only. Fully fenced and double-gated.

🐾

Canton Dog Park — 3221 Toone Street

Members-only — entry is by key fob, $25–$45 a year through the Canton Community Association, with separate small and large sections. Unusual for a public-feeling city park, and worth joining if you live east.

🐾

Howard's Park Dog Park — 310 W Centre Street

The Mount Vernon area's fenced option.

🐾

Burdick Park Dog Park — 6300 Walther Avenue

Northeast Baltimore's neighbourhood dog park.

Lost a pet in Baltimore?

Save these numbers now, not on the day.

2490 Giles Road — the city's open-admission shelter and Maryland's largest, handling around 11,000–12,000 cats and dogs a year. This is where a found Baltimore dog goes.

Dial 311 inside the city for a loose or found animal (911 if an animal is in immediate danger).

Work through the first hour properly — our step-by-step plan covers what to do before you start making calls. A QR ID tag skips most of this: whoever finds your pet scans the code with their phone and reaches you directly, without a shelter or a scanner in between.

Being fair about it

Your other options in Baltimore

  • ✓Rover and Wag — larger networks than ours, so if you need someone tonight they will usually have somebody. Their commission on new sitters is around 20%.
  • ✓A boarding kennel — predictable and staffed overnight, but your dog is somewhere unfamiliar rather than at home.
  • ✓A neighbour — free and trusted, until the week they are away too.

What you get booking through Kingston’s

  • ✓Every provider's photo ID is checked by a person on our team before they can appear in search or take a booking — that is what the green Verified badge means
  • ✓Message a provider before you commit, and keep talking through the booking with photos. The conversation stays attached to the booking, so what was agreed stays on the record
  • ✓Star ratings and reviews can only be left by someone who actually completed a booking with that provider — nobody else can post one
  • ✓If something goes wrong, report it in the app and your payment is held while we review it
  • ✓Providers keep 87% of what they charge against Rover's roughly 80%, so the same work pays a local sitter more — better-paid sitters stay, and a sitter who already knows your dog beats a cheaper stranger

We are the newest of these options in Baltimore and have fewer providers than the national platforms — we would rather you knew that going in. How to judge any sitter for yourself applies whichever one you choose.

Questions

Baltimore pet care FAQ

Does my dog need a licence in Baltimore?+

Yes — Baltimore City licenses dogs and cats over four months: $10 a year for altered pets, $30 unaltered, through PetData, with a current rabies vaccination required. Two options worth knowing: owners 65+ pay half, and an altered, microchipped pet can get a $100 lifetime licence and never renew again.

What's the deal with Canton Dog Park being members-only?+

It's real — entry is by key fob, sold by the Canton Community Association for $25–$45 a year, covering separate small- and large-dog sections. It's the only paid-entry park of the city's five; Patterson Park's bigger free park is a few blocks north if you'd rather not join.

Which Baltimore dog park is best for a small or older dog?+

Locust Point at Latrobe Park — it reserves 9–10am and 3–4pm every day exclusively for small and senior dogs, which no other park in the city does. Outside those hours, Patterson Park's separate small-dog area is the alternative.

What does a dog walker cost in Baltimore?+

Around $15–$22 for a 30-minute walk — Rover's Baltimore average was about $20 in late 2026. Boarding in a sitter's home runs $38–$55 a night (average near $48), and overnight house sitting $37–$62.

My dog got out in Baltimore — who do I call first?+

Dial 311 for city animal services, then call BARCS on 410-396-4695 and check in person at 2490 Giles Road — as Maryland's largest open-admission shelter it processes a huge volume, so file your lost report early and revisit often. Post in the Baltimore lost-pet Facebook groups the same hour; rowhouse neighbourhoods find a lot of their own dogs.

Can I chain my dog in the yard in Baltimore?+

Not with a chain — the city bans tethering by chain, choke, prong or training collar outright; only a properly fitted nylon or leather collar or harness is legal, and no tethering at all in unsafe or extreme-weather conditions. With Baltimore's narrow rowhouse yards, a fence or supervised time out is the practical answer.

Do you have providers in my part of Baltimore?+

We're building out from the waterfront and rowhouse neighbourhoods — Canton, Fells Point, Federal Hill, Locust Point, Hampden. Open the app and search your address to see who's actually available near you, and check back as the market grows.

How is Kingston's different from Rover in Baltimore?+

Providers keep 87% of what they charge, against roughly 80% for new Rover sitters plus the service fee you pay at checkout. On a $48-a-night boarding stay that's real money both ways — and better-paid sitters are the ones still doing this next year. Booking is free for pet owners.
